For the third time, the Riviera Maya will be the backdrop for the most important, traditional movie fest in the Mexican Caribbean, the Riviera Maya Underground Film Festival (RMUFF), which will be held from October 15 to 19.
Created by a group of young enthusiasts, the RMUFF gathered a large number of important filmmakers in its two previous editions. The festival featured the participation of avid cinephiles that wanted to enjoy the most recent trends in international cinema as well as the innovations in film language.
Remaining faithful to its principles, the Riviera Maya Underground Film Festival has created a venue for directors, film professionals and the audience in a totally open and free non-profit event. In this forum, filmmakers exhibit their work and experts share their opinions while the audience can interact and learn interesting facts about cinema.
In its second edition, the festival received submissions from countries like Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Uruguay, Canada, United States, United Kingdom, Spain, Austria, Belgium and Mexico. During five days, the city of Playa del Carmen was inundated with film, music, culture, and entertainment, thanks to the festive atmosphere created by the RMUFF.
In the festival, music plays a very important role, since it is always present at the end of each day's screening. Outdoor concerts are offered and night parties are thrown for the spectators. In the second edition of the fest, the closing ceremony was enlivened by the legendary French group "P18," which visited Mexico for the first time for the sole purpose of being in the festival.
It is in this way that the RMUFF has been consolidated as the first showcase for exhibition and competition of short films in the Mexican Caribbean, becoming a forum that enriches the film culture of those who visit the Riviera Maya. Apart from enjoying majestic beaches and the wonderful Caribbean climate, this October enjoy the newest trends in international cinema in a free festival, totally open to the public. Of course, like in its previous editions, the RMUFF will hold a series of additional activities, including conferences, short film and full-length film screenings, workshops, and concerts.
Submissions are being accepted from February 15 to June 30 for those who want to participate in the 2008 short film competition.
If you are interested in culture, cinema, sandy beaches, radiant sun and good music, or if you just simply enjoy movies and would like to discover different, innovative films, Playa del Carmen will be awaiting you in the Third Annual Riviera Maya Underground Film Festival. Start packing and don't miss out on this great event! |
