So what documents are necessary to carry out a wedding in the Mexican Caribbean?
MARRIAGES BETWEEN MEXICANS
- Original and copy of birth certificates of the bride and groom.
- Original prenuptial medical certificate with test results for V.D.R.L., H.I.V. and R.H. Results are valid for 15 days.
- Copy of official photo identification (ID) of the bride and groom (voter ID, military service record, school certificates, passport or driver's license)
- If either bride or groom is widowed or divorced, a copy of the certificate to that effect.
- If either bride or groom is not of legal age, copies of their parents' identification, a notarized letter granting the parents' permission or a letter from the mayor of Benito Juarez (Cancun) is needed.
- Copy of an official photo identification of the two witnesses of the ceremony.
For marriages in the Riviera Maya, prior reservations must be made and all documents must be turned in four days before the reservation date, with the application form properly completed, either typed or hand printed.
MARRIAGES BETWEEN MEXICANS AND FOREIGNERS
- Original and copy of birth certificate of the person with Mexican nationality.
- Original and copy of birth certificate of foreigner with an Apostille and translated by an authorized translator certified in the Spanish language.
- Original and copy of official photo identification of the person with Mexican nationality.
- Valid passport of the person of foreign nationality.
- Permission from the Secretary of the Office of Immigration for the foreign party to enter into a contract of marriage with a Mexican.
- Prenuptial clinical analyses of both parties for V.D.R.L., H.I.V. y R.H. The results are valid for 15 days.
- Original and copy of official photo identification of the two witnesses of the ceremony.
MARRIAGES BETWEEN FOREIGNERS
- "Tourist Card" that can be picked up at the airport.
- Original and copy of birth certificates annotated (Apostille) and translated by an authorized translator certified in the Spanish language.
- Prenuptial clinical analyses of both parties for V.D.R.L., H.I.V., y R.H. The results are valid for 15 days.
- Valid passports
- If either bride or groom is widowed or divorced, a copy of the certificate to that effect.
- Permission from the Secretary of the Office of Immigration
- Original and copy of official photo identification of the two witnesses of the ceremony, with their age, address, nationality, work and relationship to the bride and/or groom.
