Looking for the perfect summer tan? Take great care of your skin while still getting that beautiful summer glow. Follow these 5 steps and you'll be on your way to a golden, safe and healthy summer tan!
1) Hydration & Exfoliation
Caring for your skin is essential to its health. If you exfoliate and hydrate your skin one day before sunbathing, it will help provide the necessary base to safely absorb some rays. We recommend mild exfoliators and natural hydration techniques to get your skin ready for the sun
2) Foods high in Beta-carotine & Antioxidants
What you put into your body is just as important as what you put on it. Eating foods high in beta-carotine and antioxidants will give your body and your skin the nutrients it needs to be healthy. Here's a helpful list of some foods that fit the bill:
3) Avoid Direct Sunlight from 11:00am-3:00pm
Sunshine can be great for the body. All that Vitamin D can help you in many, many ways. But too much of a good thing, well, it can be a bad thing. The sun is typically at it's strongest from 11:00a to 3:00pm. Try to spend these hours in the shade or other places out of the direct sunlight.
4) Use plenty of high SPF sunscreen
All your prepwork for perfect, glowing skin comes down to proper protection during the day. Use (and re-apply) sunscreen with a high enough SPF (30+) to protect your skin. Quality sunscreen will allow your skin to absorb healthy rays, while keeping you from burning. Also, remember, that if you are swimming in a protected reef or certain natural habitats, you may need special sunscreens to protect the environment.
5) Just say NO to tanning beds
It's just not worth it. Natural sunlight, when absorbed safely, is healthy for the body. Artificial tanning beds attempt to mimic the UV rays from the sun, but they're a poor, and often unsafe, substutite. Just spend time outside and take in those rays in a natural, healthy way. You'll thank yourself later!
Now, go out and enjoy the sun!
